Windows System Restore
The windows system restore is designed to help you go to a previous system state while keeping your personal files, it is enabled by default but it can also be turned off which is NOT recommended, this is one of the best tools the computer has to recover from a unbootable computer or a hard to get rid of virus.
Restore points are created whenever you make changes to important files in your Windows like installing a driver, installing a Windows update or installing an application.
However, if you've installed an application after the system restore date, you will lose the application because it restores the registry to the date specified and applications adds information to the registry when installed, so you will need to install them again.
The registry is like a file cabinet with all of your Windows information, especially installed applications.
