What is a Computer Virus?

A computer virus is a malicious code(an application) that copies itself on your computer, hence the name virus. Like I've said before, it's just a program like any other but with malicious intent, instead of doing something beneficial for you, like playing a movie it damages your computer. But just recently things have changed, there are types of viruses which don't reproduce themselves like spyware, malware, adware and they act different but for some reason people still call the virus.

They usually infects your computer using a floppy, CD. USB or the internet, you may receive a message with a file attached through your e-mail, and this file can very well contain a virus(ESPECIALLY if it's an .exe or a .bat).
NEVER open an .exe that you've received through e-mail, unless you are 100% sure it's not a virus

Knowing if your computer is infected with a virus without the help of an anti-virus is a hard thing to do, mostly because much viruses are designed to be stealthy to catch users off-guard.
