Choosing your computer case

First, we need to choose a computer case, and there are several things to consider, which we will be discussing below:

  • Exterior Space and Design
  • Interior Space
  • Cooling
  • Motherboard

Exterior Space and Design

This is the overall look of the computer, at the start of 2000, cases were boring and they were almost all beige, but things have changed, nowadays some cases have lightning, they are made of different materials from aluminium, steel, plastic and in some high-end cases wood or Lego.

Interior Space

Your interior space depends on how many components you wish to add, also a lot of components and a relatively small space will make your computer overheat so it will require more fans or a better cooling system. Aluminium works better reducing heat but don't be put off if you see a design that you actually love.

Cooling

Every computer runs hot especially the CPU, Video Card and the power supply, so you need to provide it with proper a cooling system.computer case fan

Cooling Types

  • Fan cooling
  • Water Based Cooling
  • Liquid Nitrogen Cooling

The most frequently used cooling system on a computer is the fan based and it's the one I recommend, because the water based system is more costly and requires you to fill it up with water every 1-2 months, click here to know more about cooling.

Motherboard

Your motherboard needs to fit your computer case simple as that, remember that there are different types of motherboards for different types of cases.

Motherboard Types

  • ATX----------- Uses: Desktop Computer
  • Micro ATX----- Uses: Entertainment Computer
  • Extended ATX-- Uses: Gaming Computer

ATX are for bigger cases, you will see they are a bigger motherboard, with more options of upgrading and customization, micro ATX are the perfect use for entertainment systems because they are smaller so they can fit in smaller cases but provide less customization options and the Extended ATX which are bigger motherboards usually used in workstations, SLI configurations or Crossfire configurations.
